Direct Metal Structures BBB Business Review

Metal Building Warranties

Direct Metal Structures works with more than one manufacturer. Because of that, warranties aren’t one-size-fits-all. Coverage can change depending on the building, the installation location, and the options chosen at the time of order.

Below, we’ll give you a general overview of common warranty types, what isn't usually covered, and how to start a claim if an issue comes up.

Disclaimer: Any modification, misuse, or unapproved alteration of a structure can void building warranties.

The Warranties We Offer

Warranty coverage will depend on the manufacturer tied to your building. That said, most Direct Metal Structures orders include some version of the warranties listed below.

01

Limited Warranty Against Rust-Through

This warranty is meant to cover steel framing and paneling that rusts completely through because of a material defect. It does not usually apply to surface rust, discoloration, or corrosion caused by weather or moisture exposure.

02

Workmanship Warranty on Installation

A workmanship warranty applies to the installation itself. It typically covers problems caused by installation errors, not damage from storms, settling, or changes made after the building is installed.

03

Limited Warranty on Paint Finish

Paint finish warranties usually focus on peeling, flaking, or blistering that happens earlier than expected. Some fading over the course of your building’s life is normal and is often excluded from coverage.

04

Wind and Snow Warranty

This warranty confirms your building is engineered to meet specific wind and snow load ratings in your county. It only applies when the structure is installed correctly and used as intended.

Warranty Limitations

Every metal building warranty has limits. Understanding those limits ahead of time helps avoid confusion later on. The most common include:

Environmental

Harsh conditions like coastal air, chemicals, or standing water can impact warranty coverage. In certain areas, upgraded materials may be required to keep warranties valid.

Weather

Storms, tornadoes, hurricanes, and natural disasters are considered ‘acts of God,’ and are excluded from metal building warranties.

Unauthorized Modifications

Cutting panels, drilling into framing, welding parts, or adding attachments without approval can void coverage. Even small changes can affect how the structure performs.

Roof Style and Length

Warranty terms can change based on roof design, span length, or overall layout. Longer buildings or custom roof styles may not carry the same coverage as standard designs.

Filing a Warranty Claim

If something doesn’t look right and you think it may be a warranty issue, it’s best to start the process sooner rather than later. Clear information helps move things along.

Gather Order Details

Find your invoice, order number, installation date, and any related paperwork. This helps identify the manufacturer and the warranty tied to your building.

Take Clear Photos and Videos of Damage

Use good lighting and take photos from different angles. Show the issue up close, but also include wider shots for context.

Write a Short Description

Explain what you're seeing, when it started, and whether it's changed over time. A simple timeline helps.

FAQs about Warranties

Warranties can raise questions, especially when different manufacturers are involved. To give you a clearer picture of what to expect, we’ve answered a few of the questions we hear most often:

Do all buildings come with the same warranty?

No. Warranty coverage depends on the manufacturer, building type, location, and selected options.
Yes. Certain warranties require professional or approved installation.
Most warranties do not cover cosmetic issues like fading, scratches, or minor surface rust.
That depends on the manufacturer. Some allow transfers, others don’t.
It varies. Manufacturer review times differ, but clear documentation usually helps streamline the process.
